Newsroom
Courtney Kirchman and Vang Thao

This month, New Teacher & Leadership Development (NTLD) welcomed two new administrators to its IMPACT Intern Program. Courtney Kirchman will oversee the single subject and career technical education (CTE) credential program, while Vang Thao will oversee the multiple subject credential program.

The IMPACT Intern Program partners with a consortium of districts to recruit and train interns. Hiring interns becomes a viable option when districts are unable to hire fully credentialed teachers. IMPACT is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to deliver credentials coursework. Throughout the two-year program, program-assigned practicum supervisors and district-assigned onsite mentors support interns. This approach to teacher preparation engages interns in a rigorous teacher-training program and provides district-specific professional learning opportunities.

Profiles in Character
Mohammed Abdullah and brother

Mohammed Abdullah (left) takes time to visit, check in, and share joy with the students in Monache High School's K1 classroom. We first met Mohammed when his older brother was enrolled in the AcCEL program classroom at Monache. Mohammed has maintained a connection with the students and staff in classroom K1. He is now a student assistant.

He is authentic with his interactions with the students. He can be anywhere on campus and notice a need of one of the students. He provides comfort and care without bringing any attention to himself. He is beloved by the students and staff. His maturity allows for him to offer guidance and friendship to his peers with special needs, with the upmost respect and dignity. His interactions with others are truly beautiful to encounter.
